Network-based DDoS Mitigation
One of today’s fastest growing and potentially crippling threats is a DDoS (distributed denial of service) attack. During a DDoS attack, the attacking hosts are often zombie computers—with broadband connections to the Internet—that have been compromised by viruses or Trojan horse programs. During an attack, the perpetrator can flood the victim’s system with requests, rendering it incapable of functioning properly. Even the largest and most well-connected websites can be compromised.
To address such threats, SAVVIS’ Network-Based DDoS Mitigation Service provides customers with the ability to minimize the impact of potential DDoS attacks by providing protection at the core-router level, and re-routing potential DDoS attack traffic to one or more SAVVIS cloud-based “cleaning centers.” By addressing attacks quickly, customers may reduce overall site downtime and the costs of bandwidth spikes that relate to such attacks. In addition, the customer’s overall dedicated infrastructure costs may be reduced, as the service makes use of a SAVVIS-provided cleaning center infrastructure.
SAVVIS’ Network-Based DDoS Mitigation Service is available to all of our network and hosting customers. Because the service is network-based, SAVVIS’ customers are not required to purchase equipment or software. The DDoS filtering equipment, which relies on advanced detection and mitigation technologies, is located on SAVVIS’ Tier-1 Internet network backbone, which extends to over 40 countries and serves more than 25 percent of the world’s Internet traffic.
