Network-Based Firewall Service

SAVVIS’ Network-Based Firewall Service (NBFS) leverages Cisco’s® Multi-Service Blade (MSB) Firewall Module to provide true, “in-the-cloud” firewall protection to your organization, through a flexible and efficient delivery model. Our deployment efficiency and anticipated timeframes can allow your organization to benefit from a lower total cost of ownership, when comparing SAVVIS’ service to traditional premise-based deployment models. In addition, our service is provisioned with only the bandwidth that you require, characterized by convenient upgrades to bandwidth requirements, should your requirements increase as your organization grows. Firewall configuration changes are made directly in-the-cloud, rather than to premise-based equipment. In summary, deploying this level of security intelligence in the network incorporates industry-leading practices for security protection, without requiring you to deploy premise-based equipment.

Our service includes the following:

• Critical stateful packet inspection and anti-spoofing functionality.
• Inter-VLAN and Internet firewall inspection.
• Network Address Translation (NAT) and Port Address Translation (PAT) capabilities, which permit organizations like yours to better protect their internal IP (Internet Protocol) addresses.
• High-availability failover, which improves overall network efficiency.

The service is sold in conjunction with SAVVIS’ Private IP, Public IP and Private IP Plus Internet services, which are offered on SAVVIS’ Cisco-based Application Transport Services (ATS) network.

Since security situations can evolve by the minute, the Network-Based Firewall Service provides both management and maintenance of the service, including monitoring of activity on a 24/7/365 basis. In addition, our service can accommodate customer-specific firewall policies, permitting your organization to adapt its policies to changing security requirements.

To meet your evolving security needs, SAVVIS permits your organization to make firewall rule-change requests on your network-based firewalls. SAVVIS realizes that cut-and-paste security policies do not suffice in a dynamic world. For your added security, firewall rule-sets are backed-up on a routine basis, with current configurations stored at a secure, off-site location.

Once implemented, you are able to review your organization’s firewall activity directly and conveniently, via our SAVVISStation portal (available with our Enhanced Services package).
